Avoiding Meltdowns

I try to avoid meltdowns. They’re bound to happen, but I can often use redirection or distraction to prevent them. Fae, as with most (if not all) young children, isn’t able to control–or even quite understand–her emotions. I’ve found that our home is a much more peaceful place when I put a lot of effort into avoiding them.

This morning, after she figured out how fun it is to spin in circles with her wooden caterpillar pull-toy, I was thankfully able to revert her away in order to attach a string to a stuffed lion.

“No, we don’t spin in circles with a hard toy, let’s get a soft toy to spin with.”

It worked. If only I could find a way to avoid all meltdowns.
